About the Session

What if there was a way to turn waste into something of daily utility? Upcycling is taking the world by storm and is something we all need to start including in our daily activities and what better way than to start with Raksha Bandhan which is right around the corner. In this interactive and do-it-along session, our knowledge contributor – Meenakshi Sharma, will help you create a beautiful Rakhi and a special gift for your sibling from materials lying at home that you would have otherwise disposed of. At the end of the session, you will understand how easy it is to create items of value from things that you would have otherwise thrown away.

Let’s get to know Meenakshi

Meenakshi Sharma is the founder of Use Me Works – which believes that ‘Nothing should go to waste’​. She has been a Professional upcycler since 9 years – turning waste into objects of daily utility, but has been following the practice of upcycling and handcrafting even before she hit her teens. She is deeply motivated by the potential of changing waste into something extremely useful. Her dream would be to have an eco-friendly house in the middle of a forest someday.

What you’ll need for the session

• 1 hour of your time
• A working internet connection
• For making Rakhi (Optional if you would like to do-it-along with us)
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Waste fabrics from any old rags or old discarded garments
  • Beads, shells, pom poms, buttons (anything decorative that is available at home)
  • Fevicol/Glue
  • Pencil/pen/Marker
  • Scissors
  • Wool/any string/jute twine/cloth strip/waste shoe lace
  • Cardboard from any shopping carton
• For making a Mobile Stand gift (Optional if you would like to do-it-along with us)
  • Foil paper roll/toilet paper roll
