Gratitude is a positive emotion which is used to express a general state of thankfulness or gratefulness. It forms a major part of positive psychology, which is a branch of psychology dealing with positive thoughts and emotions.

It is essential to inculcate gratitude in our daily lives as it is these little basic things in life which are required for survival like the warm sunlight, the air that we breathe in, the food that we eat and the people around us to whom we need to be eternally grateful, the ones who succeed in lighting up our faces with a beautiful smile and teach us how to be happy no matter how difficult the situation is.

It is only when we start to appreciate the precious little things existing in our life, we can truly enjoy life and henceforth, live our life to the fullest. It is also worth noting that gratitude evokes a sense of fulfillment and teaches us the real value of what we are actually holding onto in every walk of life.

There is indeed a lot of benefits of being grateful in life, such as, practicing gratitude helps in building new relationships and improving the interpersonal relationships, thereby leading to a more happy and peaceful life. It also ensures that we know the definite worth of everyone and everything which is directly or indirectly affecting our way of living, and leads to a solution focused approach to life.

We can definitely incorporate gratitude in our day-to-day lives by maintaining a gratitude journal wherein, you could write daily about at least 5 things for which you are grateful for. This will definitely change our perception and will ensure a more positive outlook in life. You could also jot down a few things which you would like to convey to the person to whom you are grateful in the form of a small note along with a small gift or do something that the other person would like and appreciate. This would not only make the other person happy but will also lead to a tiny sense of satisfaction of being able to express yourself.

We all surely do have a lot of things to be grateful for in our day-to-day lives, especially during the period of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has taken a physical as well as a mental toll on our health as well as our loved ones’.

We are forever indebted to the service of the frontline workers who are working relentlessly day and night without rest and selflessly sacrificing their lives and we must indeed be grateful to all the soldiers out there who are putting their life at stake in order to protect our nation.

Lastly, start cherishing the little moments in life, make memories, appreciate whatever you have, be grateful and live your life to the fullest!
